The Chip & Dip Night Collection

Did you ever wonder why people started preserving their salsa in Mason jars? Well here is a little spicy history for you! John Landis Mason was a tinsmith from New Jersey in 1858.  John Landis Mason’s jar was a transparent, square-shouldered glass jar with a threaded neck and a screw-on metal cap that created an airtight seal, this transparent design allowed the contents to be identified. Since the jars sold to households were most often transparent, they became a staple for preserving varieties of foods for the family. Rare Mason jars in cobalt blue, emerald green, and amber. are highly sought after by collectors.
